Mentoring for women in trades

MEGT Women In Trades program

Mentoring – your secret advantage

Did you know that apprentices who receive mentoring support are more likely to complete their qualification?

As a female trade apprentice, an MEGT mentor can work alongside you throughout your apprenticeship. Our mentors are here to cheer you on, and offer advice, feedback, and encouragement when and if you need.

While some apprentices develop strong bonds with their mentor and work closely together, many of our apprentices sign up to our mentoring program and enjoy knowing that if they need assistance there is someone they can reach out to.

What can I chat about?

Our mentors act as a sounding board and can help you build your career and navigate any challenges you may face in the workplace.

You may want to speak to a mentor about:

  • Getting started in a new job
  • Understanding your role
  • Building time management skills
  • Help with off-the-job training and assessments
  • Navigating a range of issues in the workplace including gender stereotype barriers
  • Help communicating with your boss
  • Help with personal challenges
  • Getting referrals to specialist support services
  • Career guidance and plans for after your apprenticeship
